The Intern Experience
This summer, we were lucky enough to welcome four great interns into our office. Jamie, Maria, Wes Rosie were great additions to SA. We believe in making our interns part of our team—no busy work around here. Now that school’s back in session, it’s time to take a look back at their time at SA.
Jamie, Public Relations
After my other internships, I expected my time at Strategic America to have a lot of busy work and ‘intern tasks’, like running errands and answering phones. Let me tell you, I have never been so happy to be so wrong. An internship with Strategic America is much more than that. The public relations department welcomed me in as a part of the team from day one. They didn’t treat me like an intern, but like an equal. I feel like my ideas and are valued at SA. This intelligent, funny and empowering group of people have given me endless opportunities to learn and grow. They provided learning opportunities and helped me set and reach goals.
There’s something so valuable about loving what you do. It didn’t take long after my introduction to public relations to know it’s what I wanted to study at Drake. Since then, my internship with SA has only enhanced my excitement and passion. I truly feel like I have grown both personally and professionally during the short time I’ve spent at SA this summer. I am so thankful for the opportunities I’ve had so far, and I’m eager to see what else is in store as I continue my time with SA.
Maria, Data and Analytics
Working in the data and analytics department has been an interesting experience from the start. On my first day, I was already learning about the wild world of email and going to client status calls. The team is so open, and they’ve tried to expose me to as many topics and projects as possible during my short time at SA. I’ve learned so many great things—including a vocabulary of new acronyms, campaign tracking, adjusting marketing mixes for individual branch needs, expanding my excel knowledge and more.
Aside from my personal and professional learning experiences, I also got to make fun memories with my fellow SAers. I’ve loved bonding with my coworkers over food—something that brings all SAers together. Whether it was over queso, bagels, coffee, pasta or fries, it’s been great getting to know my coworkers. I love how SA celebrates their people. I made it on to our Instagram for National Intern Day (#famous) and got my own cookie cake to celebrate the end of summer. SA has taught me so much and introduced me to tons of great people. It’s been a blast!
Wes, Data and Analytics
I appreciate the professional learning opportunities I’ve had in data and analytics. I’ve gotten plenty of hands-on experience with different data tools—and I know the things I’ve done are being put to good use. The dashboards I’ve built on Strategic America’s Tableau Public account show clients the capabilities our department has to collect, display and interpret analytics that can help their marketing efforts. I also had the chance to work on my coding skills and learn the processes in the department. Working with machine learning and artificial intelligence has been one of the best parts.
Being part of SA has given me a glimpse of what it takes to run a successful marketing firm. It’s been interesting to see all the moving parts that go into it. My experience has been awesome and seeing so many friendly faces around the office has made it a great place to work.
Rosie, Rotating Intern
You know what they say—actions speak louder than words. That’s why we had Rosie take you inside what it means to be an intern at SA with her very own vlog. This summer, she came on board as our very first rotational intern. She got the inside scoop on what it’s like to work in every department in the agency. Check out her experience below.
We’re so thankful Jamie, Maria, Wes and Rosie chose to spend the summer with us! If you’re interested in interning with us, keep an eye on our employment opportunities.
