UNI marketing student from Des Moines earns
Strategic America Endowed Scholarship
WEST DES MOINES, Iowa – (Jan. 14, 2025) – Madison Duong, a Des Moines native in her final year studying marketing, advertising & digital media at the University of Northern Iowa (UNI), has been selected as this year’s Strategic America Endowed Scholarship recipient.
The annual scholarship was established in 2021 by Strategic America (SA) to honor the legacy of SA leaders, Michael and John Schreurs, both UNI alumni. At SA, Mike, who founded SA in 1980, serves as chair and chief strategist, and John as CEO & president. The scholarship was created to support a full-time junior or senior UNI student, rotating every two years between the College of Business and the College of Humanities, Arts, and Sciences. Preference is given to students who participate in university, department or community organizations and exhibit leadership potential. Special consideration is given for students who demonstrate experience in or a commitment to working with underserved populations.
“We are so pleased to support Madison — and the next generation of marketing and advertising leaders — through this scholarship,” said SA CEO & President John Schreurs. “Madison is a remarkable student who embodies SA values. She has been active throughout her time at UNI with several student organizations, while holding on-campus employment positions, and has already completed two professional internships. Her work ethic and integrity make her an excellent choice as scholarship recipient.”
Since beginning her college journey, Madison—who is also pursuing Ethics and English minors— gained leadership experience by serving as president of two student organizations — the Asian Student Union and Panther Ambassadors. Madison currently serves as a success coach for UNI’s Office of Student Success & Retention and was as program assistant for UNI’s Jump Start program.
“My proudest accomplishment at the moment is the progress I’ve made researching for and writing my honors thesis on ethical corporate marketing,” said Madison Duong. “I’ve also had the opportunity to gain professional experience by interning with Bankers Trust.”
